The Challenge:
Southland Technology was presented with an opportunity to design and implement cutting edge technology at Mesa College’s Allied Health dental lab. The challenge of the dental lab was to create an environment for multiple students to see what an instructor was teaching at a dental station without all having to gather around a single chair.
The Technology:
The technology that was implemented proved to be key in creating a learning environment within the dental lab where student’s could work hands-on and not have to huddle around the instructor. Southland Technology designed and implemented a system featuring a microphone used by the instructor and a camera focused on the instructional material. At each of the 11 student dental chairs a 17” flat screen display was installed to show the instructor’s demonstration. The broadcast of the demonstrations to each chair allows the students to view even the smallest procedure of the instruction right from their workstation.
The Results:
The results of the project created a new atmosphere for learning at Mesa College. Teachers and students are empowered by the classroom technology allowing for a higher level of learning and experimental education.
